Malay Bhattacharya

Malay Bhattacharya, a seasoned filmmaker and production designer, boasts an illustrious career spanning over four decades, marked by prolific contributions to the world of cinema and audiovisual communication. After completing his Bachelor of Arts from Calcutta University and a Diploma in Applied Arts from the Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata, he honed his craft further with a Diploma in Film Studies from Volkshoch Schule, Essen, Germany, where he secured the top position.

Bhattacharya's journey in the industry commenced in the advertising domain in Germany, where he served as a Graphic Designer at Wolfs Gerate KG and Shafer Werke. He later transitioned to Karstadt AG, Germany, as an Art Director in the department of Audio Visual Communication. Returning to Kolkata in 1983, he founded MOVIEMILL, a notable film and video production unit, showcasing his versatility and vision. His repertoire of works encompasses a wide spectrum, from impactful documentaries on social issues to television serials and feature films. Notable among his directorial endeavors are "Kahini" and "Teen Ekkey Teen," which earned him national and international acclaim, including prestigious awards like the National Award for Best Film and Production. Currently engaged in crafting stories and scripts for feature films, Bhattacharya also imparts his wealth of knowledge as a visiting lecturer and examiner at esteemed institutions like the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, and the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata.
