ABOUT  KRNNIVSA

K. R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science & Arts is an innovative professional training center in Film, Television and other Audio-Visual media and envisaged as a research center of excellence in Digital Media Arts established by the Government of Kerala at Thekkumthala in Kottayam District.

 

The rapid developments in the field of visual media has opened up wide opportunities in the creative world. India produces the largest number of feature films in a year and India’s Broadcast, Web, and Gaming Industries are also thriving. Providing quality training and fine tuning talented and qualified personnel is the need of the hour for our growing entertainment industry with its international presence. It is in this regard that the Government of Kerala conceived the idea of establishing a National Institute of Visual Science & Arts in the name of the late Shri. K. R. Narayanan, the former President of India.

 

It is located in a picturesque village of Kottayam district in Kerala namely Thekkumthala. The campus is spread across 12 acres of village landscape with cleaner air to breath and without the stressful sounds of the city. The serene beauty and ambiance of the place itself motivates one’s inherent creativity. Thekkumthala is a small hamlet in the ‘Akalakkunnam’ Panchayat of Kottayam Taluk.

VISION

To be a global Institute of Audio-Visual Aesthetics – a multidisciplinary centre of excellence in the fields of Visual Science and Arts. Synthesizing diverse streams of knowledge in the areas of information, entertainment, education, and technology that enhance and enrich human experience and appreciation of beauty and arts, based on a philosophy of oneness and inclusiveness.

MISSION

To endeavor to be the best academic and research institution, focused on innovation and creativity, unflinchingly committed to building a new generation of artists, technicians, research scholars, scientists and engineers under the broad canopy of visual science and arts and to this end, shall:

  • Design and deliver academic courses relevant to films, video and television production, digital arts as well as other evolving and emerging forms of performance, design, and contemporary art.

  •  Grow as an international research centre in the field of films, television, video, and digital arts.

  •  Contribute to building the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in these spheres.

GOVERNING COUNCIL

The Institute consists of a Governing Council comprising key officials and experts from different areas of expertise in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Institute. The Governing Council is chaired by the Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala and the Hon. Minister for Higher Education is the Vice-Chairman. Member of Parliament, Local MLA, representatives from the Education and the Finance Departments of Government of Kerala and Eminent Industry Experts are the other members. The general superintendence, control and administration of the Institute are vested with this Body.
