Shri. Venkiteswaran Chittur Subramanian is a notable figure in Indian cinema. His diverse career includes film criticism, academia, documentary filmmaking, writing, and subtitling. Hailing from Chalakudi, Kerala, he is known for his insightful views on cinema's social and artistic aspects. He received the National Film Award for Best Film Critic in 2009 and shared another for Best Arts/Cultural Film in 1995 for directing "Pakarnattam" with M.R. Rajan. Venkiteswaran's writings in English and Malayalam have appeared in respected publications like Deep Focus and The Hindu. His books on filmmakers K R Mohanan and Adoor Gopalakrishnan have garnered acclaim, earning him awards. As a documentary filmmaker, his works, including "Pakarnattam – Ammannur, The Actor," have received national recognition. He serves as Artistic Director of the Signs film festival and advocates for artistic integrity in cinema, resigning from the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy over concerns. Moreover, his contribution as a subtitler for over 150 films highlights his commitment to making cinema accessible to all.
