Smt. Surabhi, an accomplished independent filmmaker since 2000, explores the evolving essence of cities through feature-length documentaries and short films. Her works delve into labor, music, migration, and recently, reproductive labor. Surabhi's impactful films have earned international acclaim, showcased and awarded at prestigious festivals worldwide. Notable works include "Returning to the First Beat" (2017), "Bidesia in Bambai" (2013), and "Jahaji Music: India in the Caribbean" (2007).
Surabhi's immersive video installations exhibited globally, offer profound experiences of urban narratives. As a visiting faculty at the National Institute of Design and Whistling Woods International, she shares her documentary filmmaking expertise. Surabhi's dedication has earned her prestigious awards like The Motion Picture Association - Asia Pacific Screen Awards and grants from Ford Foundation and Brit-Doc Foundation.
