Animation & Visual Effects became an inevitable part of media even before the digital era. Now in the modern times, it offers a wide range of carrier options in film, broadcast, gaming, video content development, Advertisement, and so on. India has a history of traditional animations in its culture. We have already proven the strength on different streams of 2D/3D Animation & Visual effects in both aspects of aesthetics and technicality. The average time spent watching television in India is 2.55 hrs/day. One of the highest in the world, Indian film industry is pegged at 83.3 Billion INR and produces more movies than Hollywood every year.

The Department of Animation and VFX at K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts is geared to take in student’s courses in Animation& VFX specialisations. Recognizing Animation Art as Cinema, the department has a view in re-inventing its learning. The distinguished faculties areequipped to teach Hand Drawn Classical Animation, 2d Animation, 3d Computer Animation techniques and Visual Effects. With inter-depart integration,students are taught the whole process of film making from ideation to execution which include Film appreciation, Story development, Screenplay, writing for animation, acting for animation,etc.Through the subjects of Traditional 2D animation, Digital 2D animation, 3D animation & VFX, the department envisions bringing the best out of the students in both technical & Aesthetical perspectives.

Salient Features of the Course
The program objective is to help the students in associating the vast world of Animation, VFX and Motion Graphics for film, broadcast and other media streams.In addition to that, the program exposes students to Industry relevant software’s. It aims to nurture the student to gain the potential to become experts in the field of Animation & VFX. The program focus to carry out the animation & VFX processes in the media productions where the interaction between animation, dramaturgy, acting, music, graphics & aesthetics on one hand and productivity & technology on the other hand.
The wide range of job opportunities are available in this field like: 2d Animation, 2d Layout Artist, Storyboard Artists, 2d Character Designer, line test artist, Clean up artist, 2d concept designer, matte painting artist, 3D character modeler, 3D BG & Props modeler, Texture painting artist, Character setup artist, 3D character animator, Look finalization artist, 3D Effects Animator, CG Compositing artist, Animation director, Asset supervisor, 3D pipeline developer, 3D Line producer, 3D Generalist, matchmoving artist, special fx artist, mocap artist, roto artists, etc.
